WELCOME TO SOLVENCY ONLINE DISCUSSION GROUP

SOLVENCY uses a "list server" that delivers email to all of those on the list. People will read your post at their own convenience and responses you seek may arrive over a period of several days or more.

Our primary purpose is to stop debting one day at a time and to help other compulsive debtors to stop incurring unsecured debt.  SOLVENCY online discussion group allows an exchange of experience, strength and hope among members of DA. Posts should honor the guidelines set forth in the Twelve Traditions of Debtors Anonymous. A regular meeting format does not work well here, so this is more like a discussion "after the meeting." The result is a discussion forum that is a cross between a formal meeting and a casual, ongoing, solvency-oriented open discussion. Cross talk is allowed and the range of topics and interaction is less restrictive than might be expected at face to face meetings.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop incurring unsecured debt. There are no dues or fees for D.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. There are currently over 400 Debtors Anonymous members subscribed to the list.

Please save this message for future reference. Thank you.

I. INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Solvency electronic mail discussion group for members of Debtors Anonymous!

This list is UNMODERATED, which means that posts to the list are automatically posted to all members.

This list is also CLOSED, which means that the listowner must approve new subscriptions.  At this time the only requirement is a desire to stop incurring unsecured debt.  The listowner will confirm the subscription of prospective subscribers with no further comment or screening. However, the listowner reserves the right to unsubscribe any subscriber who breaks the anonymity of list subscribers or who focuses on abuse of other list members rather than his/her own recovery from incurring unsecured debt.

Please change your settings with your ISP to put Solvency List on your "approved list."  Your ISP may return or "bounce" the list if you do not take this step.

Also, only subscribers may post to Solvency.  This rule ensures that Spam and messages from intruders are not posted.

We request that you not batch postings to Solvency with e-mail to non-DA recipients so that the list may retain its anonymity.  Use discretion when cross-posting to other DA lists. If you do cross-post, please do not include any identifying information of members from Solvency without direct permission of the author. We have no control over the anonymity on other lists.

Also, note that all messages posted to the list or sent privately between individuals are not only private but are protected by copyright law.

Remember that the Internet is inherently insecure, thus there is no guarantee of confidentiality.  This list is a registered meeting of Debtors Anonymous and follows the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of DA in our operations.

Do spread the word about this list around the Debtors Anonymous fellowship! For reasons of our DA traditions of (1) attraction rather than promotion and (2) anonymity, please do not publicize this list outside of DA without asking the members of the list.  Please do not share any of the information posted to Solvency with face-to-face groups without direct permission of the author.

With these warnings of security offered, please understand that you have entered a virtual community.  Most of the members are active participants in the Twelve Step group Debtors Anonymous in real life.

While this group is a valuable tool, it is not a replacement for the entirety of the program.   We encourage you to explore and use the other tools of DA to enrich your recovery.

Please note that the solvency-digest contains all the messages posted to solvency and is sent to all digest subscribers each day or when the size of the digest reaches 75KB or more.

II. SUGGESTED GUIDELINES

1. We request that your presence here reflect your desire to stop incurring unsecured debt.  This can cover a broad expanse of human behavior.  When and if you choose to do so, identify yourself.  Tell us about your experience that brought you to this list and how much contact you have had with DA.

2. Please realize that those who have gathered here have done so because of their desire to change themselves.  This is not a gathering of debtors; it is a gathering of debtors who wish to recover.  This is an important distinction.

3. Isolation is a symptom of the disease.  While this list may offer an initial opportunity to share, your recovery will depend upon your willingness to go to meetings, give service, and help the debtor who still suffers.

4. While many may want to serve DA online, we cannot give more than a portion of our service here.  DA offers and needs help at many levels: individuals, groups, intergroups, and worldwide service through the General Service Board.  It is remarkably easy to become involved.

5. In order to further our recovery we must “place principles before personalities.”  While you may disagree with what someone on the list says, and post a response saying so, please refrain from attacks and insults, sharing instead your experience, strength, and hope.

III. POSTING GUIDELINES AND LIST NETIQUETTE

To post messages to the list, simply send mail to:

  solvency@mailman.toto.com

Your mail will be copied and forwarded to all members of the list.

When posting, we ask that members:

  - Provide clear and specific subject headings when posting

  - Change them when topics change

  - Make clear what in the digest is being addressed (digest

subscribers only)

  - Make clear when a message is for an individual

A regular meeting format does not work well here, so this is more like a discussion "after the meeting." The result is a discussion forum that is a cross between a formal meeting and a casual, ongoing, solvency-oriented open discussion. Cross talk is allowed and the range of topics and interaction is less restrictive than might be expected at face to face meetings.

The opinions expressed here are strictly those of the individuals who give them. The things shared here are shared in confidence and should be treated as confidential. We do not take outside the list what we read and who is on the list.

If you'll try to absorb what you read, you are bound to gain a better understanding of the way to handle your problems.

"Talk to each other, reason things out with someone else; let there be no gossip or criticism of one another, but only Love, Understanding and Companionship."

When responding to a message previously posted, we ask that members only quote as much of a previous message as is needed for clarity in response.  This is especially important for digest subscribers to observe.

Including entire messages takes bandwidth that some cannot afford, and takes additional time to scroll through.

Members sometimes prefer that brief messages to individuals -directions to a meeting, for example - go directly to the individual, and that messages sent to the whole group be experience, strength, and hope.

Please see to it that your mailbox can receive messages.  If your Internet Service Provider “bounces” mail the list sends to you, you may be unsubscribed from the list.  You may need to take special steps with your ISP to prevent the list from being blocked as Spam.

By group conscience this group does not allow advertising.  We ask that you refrain from mentioning books, products or services in which you have a personal financial interest. Group members are welcome to recommend books, products and services that have been helpful to them but are encouraged to state explicitly that these items are not a part of the DA program.

Please use "plain text", when posting, as a courtesy to members using the archives version of the list and people with older computers or programs. You can often make the choice by selecting "plain text" under either "preferences" or "format." If you do not know how to configure your mail reader, refer to your software's instructions or your ISP's tech support. However, do not allow concern that your text is not in plain text keep you from posting. Check our "plain text" page for suggestions.
